"Vinnie", a pretty girl, suffered from a lingering illness and died at the age of 22. She had gone to Guthrie, Oklahoma to be with her sister, Mrs. C. M. (Dean) Davis, when her death occurred. Her body was returned from Oklahoma and she was buried in the Dean Cemetery.
The following tribute to her, written by W. P. Howe, appeared in a local newspaper after her death:
Soft as the twilight fades away
At the close of some sweet summer day;
Like an angel's prayer at eventide,
So our precious darling Vinnie died.
Sweetly as at midnight's noon
In mystic shadows melt the moon;
As happily as the morning stars
Drift in their far-off dreamy cars
Fair as a burst of golden sheen
From the sacred shores of the great Unseen.
Wafted from the sacred cloister dim,
So Vinnie died, that long remembered day,
Passed calm and peacefully away.
